Meet the multitude of eclectic personalities amalgamated into one persona: Federico Clapis. His works bring out an unsettling yet enthralling view with his lush artworks, which speak volumes about human souls and society as a whole.
Federico Clapis has personified NFTs, which converge explosive patterns finely blended with technology. While his artworks represent fragments of his memory and imagination, he rules the world of contemporary art with absolutely raw life experiences.
Clapis transformed digital art into a medium that carries timeless emotional states. Well, to describe him is to deal with multiple psyches which are not only near to impossible to decipher but represent. Likewise, his NFTs are a mix of sculpture and video art, and sometimes left open to endless interpretations.
Regardless of how chaotic and charismatic he and his NFT artwork appear, understanding his artistic abilities has a zillionth layer. When we say he has so many people’s artistic-power packed into one, we want to hint at the possibility of him being the name behind the most prominent artist in the NFT space, Pak.
Federico Clapis recently claimed himself to be Pak with a plain tweet declaring “I am Pak.” This revelation can be a riddle that points out that he is closely related to Pak, or suggests a playful prank that may unfold into collaboration, or further drive NFT maniacs to dig for more.
Whatever the case, it’s time to introduce you to Federico Clapis and his unusual journey in the NFT artworld, unleashing the unknown facts that will certainly fuel your fascination.
1. What NFTs are to you, do you plan to focus more on NFTs in the future?
NFTs have been, for me, the tool of liberation from the heavy constraint of matter.
As I announced more than one year ago, I stopped all my physical productions to dedicate myself 100% to my digital growth.
2. Do you prefer to be called a sculptor or a digital artist? How would you describe your artistic journey, from video producer to artist to NFT creator?
I think that the term “visual artist” encompasses all of this, and I think it’s perhaps the most pertinent definition.
I have always worked with many different media, and have mostly tried to express my interiority and my point of view on human beings and society, often also playing around with different personalities.
3. Do you follow any specific process while creating your NFT? What’s the source of your inspiration?
There is no external source of inspiration but only an internal emotional urgency to express concepts in a visual way that is effective for everyone’s vision.
4. What inspires you to keep on doing what you are doing? When you are not working on your artwork, what activity do you prefer to indulge in?
Curiosity, insatiable curiosity!!
5. You have quite a strong community across social media platforms as you have a history of producing viral videos, what was the experience in that phase of life?
The experience with video productions and the use of social media was for me like a sort of university that trained me to use these means.
6. What’s the aim you are trying to accomplish with your artwork? What’s the reason behind choosing NFT as a medium to showcase your artworks?
Since I was a young child, I have always created art. I was able to demonstrate this to the world and make it my profession by growing the community.
The advent of NFTs symbolizes the pinnacle of my characteristics and traits in the use of digital and new technologies as instruments for creating art.
With a community that supports and endorses it, this finally brings about great gratification.
7. Some of the sources available on the internet say you have lived in an ashram in India and then traveled to the west. Does your artistic journey have roots in these times or any art that’s inspired by this experience?
There is certainly an inner search and a connection with my interiority that was decisive in building a bridge between my deepest parts and images.
8. Who is your favorite NFT artist and sculptor? Are you planning any collaborations with artists or anything similar?
– At the moment we cannot answer –
9. Your official website is a treat to watch. The way you showcase your artwork is amazing. How did the idea of a virtual gallery sort of experience come to your mind?
I tried to build a virtual timeline on my website.
Thanks to that, people can retrace my journey in a simple and intuitive way. Users can navigate through a virtual timeline from when I was a child, to 1998 when the first sculpture debuted, up to the present day.
10. Does every art piece convey a deeper story than what we see on screen? Which work of your own would you call a masterpiece?
Yes, they do. Each artwork has multiple levels of interpretation, some more sociological and others being more soul-related.
I am always very emotionally attached to the last work produced because it is more recent and more alive.
There is no favorite, it is only a question of time.
11. Your most recent creation, “R3d Light District”, is stirring curiosity in the NFT space. What message does it hold? Is there a story behind it, or is it just a perfect looping animated video you so dedicatedly worked on?
R3d Light District is having a lot of success in the community.
I am very happy because it has been a work of several months that deals with the theme of automation and mechanization of sex and disconnection with our body, regardless of one’s gender.
12. Your NFT “Searching For God” really caught our eyes. The two figures in the frame are wearing VR sets, similar to one of your NFTs from the flooded ruins collection. What do these VR sets represent? Seems like you are equally interested in the metaverse concept as we all are.
“Searching For God” represents man’s timeless search for the intangible.
Once again, technology is a metaphor for the eternal state of the human being.
13. I think we will never know for sure who Pak is, as not only you but Paris Hilton also tweeted “I am Pak”. Still, people are more suspicious of you being Pak. Why is that so?
I don’t think Paris Hilton has a credible profile in this specific case.
14. What made you decide that you should have diamond hands ranking for your collectors? Was it some incident or event that prompted you to introduce this sort of ranking system or did someone suggest it to you?
The construction of one community of collectors only with a long-term vision is what today can guarantee the reduction of the supply, meritocracy among collectors, and a more fluid and effective secondary market.
To do this I had to build the “Diamond Hands” ranking, building the market for the Clapis project, extremely closed and niche.
15. How do you want to be perceived by your fans?
I would like to be perceived as a multitude of personalities!
Expecting Pak x Federico Clapis?
The picture is way bigger than what we see. We are all curious as to what’s brewing between Pak and Federico Clapis. Are they a team, or are they up for some collaborative NFT project, or simply want to snatch our attention from elsewhere and give it to what they are planning next?
While we can’t really say as to what Federico Clapis is up to as he has refrained from making any statements YET!!
But one thing is certain: he has left a trail of hints for us about his connection to Pak and upcoming projects, stating, “There may be some news in the near future.”
