Within the Doodles ecosystem live humans, cats, pickles, apes, sentient flames, skeletons, aliens, and more. The visually appealing color palette and community-driven DAO have most likely contributed to Doodles NFTs magnanimous success.
The Doodles NFT has become one of the most well-known and admired NFT projects in existence in just a few short months. The collection of lively and vibrant line-drawn characters has practically taken over the internet and is one of the most well-liked and successful PFP (profile-picture) collections.
“What is a doodle?” you may wonder. Let’s go over in detail about the NFT Collection’s long-term utility to its creative partnership with Pharrell.
What is the Doodles NFT Collection?
Doodles are a colorful collection boasting of 10,000 PFP NFTs composed of hundreds of exciting visual traits designed by Scott Martin aka Burnt Toast. Hand-drawn Doodles include skellys, cats, aliens, apes, and mascots. The Doodles NFT collection also includes dozens of rare heads, costumes, and colorways from the artist’s palette.
The Doodles universe is constantly expanding, with new experiences like Space Doodles available only to collectors. As the universe expands, so does the brand, and collectors can expect exclusive access to the latest products, merchandise, and events as a part of their ownership.
When the project was first launched, Doodles achieved something that a PFP project had reportedly never done before. The Doodles team shut down the Discord when membership reached little over 1,000, around a month before the project went live for minting. The project’s community became even more elitist as a result of the fact that new members could no longer join.
The Discord server was reopened soon after the whole supply of Doodles had sold out, attracting a large number of new collectors and aficionados to the group.
The Doodles NFT collection has harbored the interest of some popular NFT collectors as well. Justin Beiber, Steve Aaoki, Pranksy (NFT Influencer), and Gary Vee are some of the prominent collectors of the popular and livid Doodles NFT.
Who is Behind the Doodles NFT?
Doodles NFT collection is created by Evan Keast, Scott Martin and Jordan Castro, who go by the names Tulip, Burnt Toast and Poopie respectively in the community.
Burnt Toast (Scott Martin) is the primary illustrator on the Doodles NFT team. He is a Canadian artist, animator, designer, and muralist whose work has appeared in a variety of global campaigns and publications, among other things. He has worked with well-known companies such as Dropbox, Facebook, Google and Red Bull.
Tulip (Evan Keast) joined the Doodles team with a background in marketing and gaming. Before co-founding the company, he was one of the most sought-after NFT consultants in the industry. Dapper Labs’ NFT ventures, including CryptoKitties, were all lucrative, and he played a key contributor to their success. Keast has also worked with other companies such as NBA Top Shot, Cheeze Wizards, and Flow.
Poopie (Jordan Castro) has been a blockchain developer since 2013, and he previously led the CryptoKitties project at Dapper Labs.
The team hired Julian Holguin, a former president of Billboard, as a partner and CEO in May 2022 so they could “lean into music, gaming, premium content, and consumer products.”
Furthermore, the Doodles NFT team robbed in Pharell Williams as Chief Brand Officer to produce music projects, produce animated film & tv and creative direct product launches.
What makes Doodles NFTs unique?
The Doodles NFTs are digital assets that are more than just a blockchain token. The team claims that Doodles was created with the community in mind and launched to “bring joy to everyone who sees them”. The project’s roadmap is a collaborative endeavor thanks to the animated avatars that grant users voting privileges.
Additionally, the voting process within the community, its pro-artist anti-scam culture and entertainment have helped to further the trend behind Doodles NFT.
Community Voting
The entire Doodles ecosystem is purely a DAO, with each Doodles owner having a say in what that DAO does. Keast explained how the DoodleDAO treasury would work early on, stating that 1 Doodle = 1 Vote on all DoodleBank decisions.
Doodles members have been given the opportunity to vote on proposals for Doodles team scaling, Doodles live events, funding a 3D Doodles project and much more. The Doodles Forum and Doodles discord allow members an extra discussion level for each proposal.
Over the time, Doodles nft project has matured, initiatives have become far more important to Doodles’ future and overall success. This is most likely due to the project’s leadership, which seems to continue to aim for the horizon.
Anti Scam/Pro-Artist Culture
Doodles NFT collection quickly became the inspiration for numerous derivative and knock off projects after becoming one of the most popular projects on the market. Doodles’ team appeared to have anticipated this problem, as they had already set up a sort of derivative approval system within their Discord.
Developers were encouraged to submit official proposals for projects based on the Doodles NFT collection. Numerous projects proposed by the Doodles community have been put to vote, with collections such as Noodles and Pukenza resulting directly from the 1 Doodle = 1 Vote system.
A scam alert channel is also added to the Doodles server, encouraging a “see something, say something” mentality. To date, a large number of fraudulent accounts and projects have been reported there, and it appears that the channel has greatly helped in the reduction of a number of unapproved Doodles knockoffs and potential scams.
Entertainment
From the beginning, Doodles NFT collection has tried to be more than just another web3 project, it aims to become a web3 entertainment company, complete with art installations, concerts, and merchandise.
Possibly one of the most interesting aspects of the Doodles project is its crossover from the blockchain into the real world. Doodles has created immersive in-person experiences that have coincided with annual NFT events not once but twice.
First, the Doodles team collaborated with The Heart Project to host a large-scale event during Art Basel Miami in December 2021. The NFT community got its first glimpse of what to expect from Doodles as an entertainment company at Heart Basel Miami.
The event, which featured a gallery, exclusive merch, live music performances, and more, was planned and executed in a very short amount of time, according to the expenditure proposal.
The second event, the Doodles Genesis Factory, debuted alongside NFT.NYC in June 2022. The activation helped to communicate Doodles’ desire to show up and show out even more, setting the stage for the announcement of many upcoming Doodles initiatives, including Doodles’ first fundraise, Doodles 2, Doodles Records and more.
Doodles to the Moon
The doodles team was constantly looking for new ways to enhance current owners’ experiences. After the NFT boom while everyone was busy releasing additional NFT collections to the original, Doodles team came up with a different approach.
They released Space Doodles, a companion collection in February 2022 that aims to “venture into the galaxy to discover joy and rainbow puke.”
The Doodles team put in place a mechanism that allowed Doodles owners to exchange their NFT for the new Space Doodles NFT. These spaceship-themed NFTs are a separate collection on the Ethereum blockchain to distinguish them from the original.
Future of Doodles NFT Collection
Doodles have achieved immense growth and accomplishments, currently, the collection has amassed around 148.5K ETH in secondaries. The Doodles project is showing no signs of slowing down, from live, immersive events to unique, innovative project development.
Doodles Web3 entertainment company continues to grow through its unique initiatives. Some of which are mentioned below:
Doodles 2
Doodles 2 is possibly the most exciting next step in the Doodles lengthy roadmap, even beyond Space Doodles. Doodles appears to be foregoing the path of a companion project once more in order to launch a completely unique new initiative aimed at onboarding more enthusiasts into the Doodles NFT collection.
Doodles 2 is likely to go live on a different blockchain entirely. Although the Doodles founders have stated that the decision in its entirety is still pending, the team hopes that it will aid in the mass adoption of the Doodles project.
Doodles 2 will allow new collectors to mint a base-level Doodle, select generic traits like skin tone and hair color, and then customize their Doodle with wearables that come in varying tiers of rarity.
It is assumed that Doodles 2 would be dynamic NFTs where owners can change their look as often as they like, swap between a full-body or PFP perspective, and unlock an animated version of their NFT complete with original music.
Doodles recently staged a successful auction for its Genesis Box NFTs, which will be crucial to the Doodles 2 ecosystem. Genesis Boxes are the first set of accessories available for customizing Doodles 2 NFTs. “Each one-time-use Box features an unusual variety of clothes and accessories,” the Doodles website claims.
There are 24,000 Genesis Boxes in all. Doodles owners and their guests received the first 4,000 Genesis Boxes personally at NFT.NYC. In a “bucket auction,” as Doodles describes it, the remaining 20,000 Genesis Box NFTs were put up for sale.
Doodles 2 NFTs will be launching sometime this year, though a firm date has not been set yet.
Doodles Records
Doodles Records is another new area of the Doodles brand that Doodles fans can look forward to.
While little is known about the rumored record label, Doodles Records: Volume 1 has been announced to include original music produced by Pharrell, hand-drawn album art by lead Doodles artist Scott Martin, and limited edition Doodles 2 wearables.
The first volume is a collaboration with Columbia Records and will include music that Doodles 2 owners can layer into their new animated NFTs.
Dooplicators
The Dooplicators are a secondary collection of NFTs released by Doodles in May. Doodles holders could get the Dooplicators free of cost ( gas price excluded ) for each of their Doodles NFTs.
The utility of the Dooplicators NFTs is that they produce wearables for the Doodles 2 ecosystem. They can not only “duplicate” accessories from the Genesis Box NFTs, but also traits from the original Doodles collection.
Doodles Fundraise
Doodles announced a $54 million funding round led by Seven Seven Six, with participation from 10T Holdings, Acrew Capital, and FTX Ventures.
The newly raised funds will allow Doodles to scale its growth strategy and monetize their IP globally through ventures in music, culture and entertainment industries.
Doodles will be looking for the best talent in the creative, operational, and blockchain sectors to help them optimize their roadmap and streamline operations in preparation for future growth. Doodles will also finance product development through acquisitions and its own media, technology, and collector experiences.
After Thoughts
Beyond the typical hype cycle of price rises, popularity, controversy and celebrities embracing the Doodles community, it appears that Doodles has always been about strengthening their community.
Putting emotions aside, it’s obvious that Doodles plans to take their community on a wild journey over the coming years given the millions of dollars in money that are currently sitting in the Doodle bank and the upcoming launch of a significant fundraising campaign.
